From September 2015, all children from Year 1 upwards are following the new National Curriculum (Children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Curriculum). This means that there have been quite a few changes to the content that our children study. Please click on the links below to see what the children have to learn for each year group in reading, writing and maths. The objectives are broken down into 'Steps' and also link to assessment and tracking programmes within school.

At Hassell we have a creative approach to the curriculum in all areas. This means that each year group have a topic based approach which integrates different subject areas within a theme. This enables our teachers and teaching assistants to develop lots of practical, fun and hands on activities with our children, using visits, visitors and enrichment activities to help broaden the curriculum. We like the children to participate in theme days and activities; they may be asked to dress up, participate in food making and tasting, work with actors, dancers or story tellers… the list goes on. We value parental and carer contributions and enjoy welcoming family members to support our children in their learning. If you have skills or knowledge that you would like to share, please call in at the office or speak to a member of staff.
